START WITH THE BASICS

More than a
body fat percentage.

Your weight is one number. A body composition scan looks at how that weight is made up. The useful part is understanding what the report can tell you, and where its limits are.

What does a DEXA scan measure?
DEXA SCANS EXAMPLE REPORT
Total fat mass18.0 kg
Body fat percentage25.0 %
Lean tissue mass51.0 kg

Made-up values for learning. Not a target.

A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you book.

Is a body composition scan the same as a bone density scan?

Both can use DXA technology, but the scan protocol and purpose differ. A whole-body composition report is not a substitute for a diagnostic hip and spine bone density assessment. Ask the clinic which test you need.

Do I need to aim for a particular body fat percentage?

There is no single percentage that suits everyone. Age, sex, health and the reference population all affect interpretation. A number on its own doesn’t tell you whether a change would be useful.

Can I upload my report here?

No. Our guides use an example report. You can read them without sharing personal health information or creating an account.
